Elizabeth Wolf is an illustrator and artist. Liz began her career at the National
Geographic Society in Washington, DC, as a map designer. She is now most
well known for her compelling and engaging illustrations and artwork for regional
and national theatre companies, film and music festivals, children’s books,
magazines, newspaper editorials, and a wide range of commercial clients. As a
resident of Boise, Idaho, Liz has been awarded several prestigious commissions
for public art projects, including her highly acclaimed terrazzo floor at the Boise
Airport. In 2004, she received the Governor’s Award in the Arts, acknowledging
her contributions to the arts in Idaho.
Liz began WolfWare TableWare as a way to share her love of drawing in a more
personal way. The work is decorative and figurative; often based on historical
costume, portraiture, nature, and architectural embellishment. The inspiration
comes from Liz’s interest in historical ornamentation and decoration— a cave
painting at Lascaux, a wall painting in an Egyptian tomb, a figure or design on a
Greek vase, a mosaic on a floor or wall, a ceiling mural in a cathedral, a Persian
rug, or an Art Deco figure on the side of a building. Her goal as an artist to make
something ordinary— a plate, a wall, a floor, a sign, a book— become
something extraordinary.
